By Danielle Bulluck SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)—Syracuse Van Duyn Rehabilitation Center has found a new creative way to fundraiser for Upstate University Hospital Cancer Center. Each year the Van Duyn Center chooses a different cause to fundraiser for and this year its cause is Uterine cancer.
The center has held a golf tournament for the last two years and The Administrative Assistant for the Van Duyn Rehabilitation Center Kayla Winters said each year they’ve raised a large amount of money. This year they wanted to do something different.
Winters said the food events are always really popular, so they decided to start yoga classes.
” Since this is our third year in a row, we wanted to think of some different fundraisers instead of just same thing we did the last two years, ” Winter said.
The Center will host its first outdoor yoga class this weekend in honor of Cathy Martinez, a Van Duyn Corporate employee who recently died from uterine cancer.
Winters had Martinez in mind when she thought about getting fit with yoga. She said this hit home for a lot of people so why not make this year fundraiser about Cathy Martinez.
Memorial Funds will go to Upstate University Hospital Cancer Center to be used for women with uterine cancer in the future.
