By: Brandon Williams SYRACUSE, NY (NCC News) — Students attending Syracuse University have many job and career development opportunities in the local area.
Danielle Harvey, career counselor and employee relations lead of the Career Development Center at Syracuse University said many students are doing internships in the Syracuse area, as well as on-campus.
“We do have local news broadcast organizations like News Channel 9, we’ve had a lot of students work there, CNY Central, those are our local news affiliates. And then we also have students who work on-campus. They work for the Daily Orange or for our local TV station,” Harvey said.
Many students in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications program at Syracuse University apply for jobs in very competitive industries. The Career Development Center helps students feel confident as they compete for jobs with other accomplished prospects.
“We help with your elevator pitch, and teach students how to talk to employers about what your aim is and what your goal is for your career,” Harvey said.
Harvey said that Syracuse is good market for students to start their career.
“A lot of things are happening in Syracuse. It’s kind of undergoing its own renaissance. There’s a lot of news happening here, which makes it kind of a great area to be in and to be kicking off your career.”
Syracuse University offers many resources to its students. This includes both on-campus, and off-campus opportunities in Syracuse and surrounding areas. The Career Development Center helps students take advantage of those opportunities, which allows students to gain real-world experience.
