Decorating for the holidays in the middle of one of warmest summers in Central New York history is not a fairytale for the Ronald McDonald House of Central New York. On Thursday, they hosted their annual Christmas in July event that each year brings out the community for a charitable cause.

Their wish list included things like office supplies, toys, food and household items. Also, the charity added the option to donate online on their Amazon Wish List.

The family atmosphere has attracted volunteers like Haley Duke to come back each year. She said it was first her mom who first told her she should volunteer at RMHC and now she wants to know when she can go back. Haley said she has been volunteering for RMCH of CNY for about 3 years.

For over 35 years, the charity has helped more than 18,000 families find comfort and hope.

The Ronald McDonald House serves families whose children are ill and have to travel to nearby hospitals for assistance. RMHC charges families $25 a night and provides accommodations such as shuttle services to and from local hospitals for guests.

RMHC shuttle vans accommodate Crouse Hospital and Golisano Children’s Hospital families. Public transportation is available to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and the house is located within walking distance of Crouse Hospital and Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Each year, RMHC hosts four signature fundraising events: Bella Casa Fashion Show, Christmas in July, RMHC of CNY Golf Invitational and Many Hearts One Home Celebration. The events help RMHC raise funds to support the services that are provided to their guest families.
