By Logan Grossman SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) — Dick’s Sporting Goods, the largest sporting goods chain in the United States, announced Wednesday that they will no longer sell AR-15s, the gun used to kill 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Dick’s also announced that they will not sell any weapons to anyone under the age of 21, even in areas where local laws allow younger people to purchase guns.
Dick’s sold a shotgun to Nikolas Cruz, the man charged with 17 accounts of murder following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb 14.
Local residents and Gov. Andrew Cuomo took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the new policy.
I commend DICK's Sporting Goods, a member of the New York family, for their leadership in taking smart measures to keep weapons out of the wrong hands.
Weapons of war do not belong on our streets. https://t.co/bER4GobKS9
