By Sean Salisbury, Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) — Wednesday morning wasn’t a typical school day at Donald S. Ray Middle School in Baldwinsville. On the bus ride to school, one student saw a classmate with a BB gun. He immediately reported the incident to school officials when he arrived.
Local law enforcement and the school district conducted an investigation and took the student into custody.
Superintendent Matthew J. McDonald released a statement saying the district “takes these matters seriously and will not condone any threat to student and staff safety no matter what the origin.”
BB guns are not known to be lethal, but can cause serious damage if someone is shot in the eye. McDonald also commended the student for speaking up and bringing the issue to attention before any harm could have taken place.
