By Ashley Burroughs SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)– Opportunities knocked and doors were opened.┬áToday, Destiny USA hosted a job fair for Embassy Suites. People were waiting in long lines to get applications and resumes reviewed for employment.

Kevin Varr, General Manager of Embassy Suites, was impressed to see how many people attended this event. Within the first hour and a half, Embassy Suites’ staff saw over 150 applications. Varr said, ” We have printed about 1,000 applications and it looks like we will be going through all those and then some.”

Embassy Suites has 70 new hospitality positions available and 30 distinctive job titles from General Manager to Housekeeping.

For Aly Wojnowicz, this job fair may give her the opportunity for a much needed career change. “This makes me feel like going to work again and that is what I am looking for,” Wojnowicz said.

For others like Eugene Belt, who works at the Southside Community Center, these job opportunities are a safe haven for young people. “It keeps them out of trouble especially all that’s been going on the Southside with people getting shot and what not, ” Belt said. “It keeps them off the streets, out of trouble, and actually in a positive environment.”

These new positions will not only help increase Syracuse’s employment rate but also the community. Varr believes the location is perfect for guest to be connected to the Syracuse area. ” It would be great for our guest to be able to say they are only steps away from shopping, dinning, and entertainment,” Varr said.

Embassy Suites is scheduled to open by the end of the year. The job fair was held from noon until eight in the Canyon Area of Destiny USA.
