By Stephen Armstrong CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (NCC News) –¬†of all military veterans, women make up around 10 percent.

As for active duty personnel РClear Path For Veterans estimates between 12 and 15 percent are female.

As the proportion of women in the military has been rising, so too has the number of roles open to them.

More combat jobs have been opened to women in the past few years, including the Army Rangers, which had its first female graduates in 2015.

With more women serving, Clear Path For Veterans says it’s important to recognize the contribution of female military members, and give them a chance to share their stories.

Today the organization held  Women Proudly Served Appreciation Day at their location in Chittenango.

Women on active duty met with female veterans and their families for lunch, and had an opportunity to hear from a lineup of speakers.

The organization says events like this one not only honor women warriors, but gives them the opportunity to connect with other women who share similar experiences, and build a support network.
