NY DMV to Offer Free Car Seat Inspections and Installations
The Department of Motor Vehicles is offering free child car seat inspections throughout April. All across Upstate New York, drivers can go to a checkpoint sponsored by the DMV to have their child safety seat looked at. Police at the locations will check to make sure the car seats are properly installed and to remind drivers about the dangers of not using a booster seat for a child or having a seat improperly installed. For any parent or guardian that is unsure of how to properly use a car seat or secure a child in the seat, officials at the car seat check locations can help to teach adults to take proper care of their child in the car.
In 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a study detailing child restraint use in motor vehicles. The study found that 91% of all child passengers from birth to seven years old used a car seat and 92% of these occurrences were when children sat in the back seat.
Locations in Upstate New York for car seat checks are:
Onondaga County- April 15, 10:00 AM to 12 Noon, Wetzel Road Church of Christ
Cortland County- April 22, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, NYS Grange Museum
