The holidays no longer have to be as stressful with the seasonal job opportunities currently available in the Syracuse Area.
By Remington Bennett SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)— The holidays are times of unity and cheer. For many, they are also times of financial stress and panic.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, people are already planning how to get the necessary funds to have a successful and festive time of year. Luckily, this holiday also provides new opportunities for Syracuse residents to earn some extra money to prepare for this season’s festivities.
Adults are not the only ones feeling the heat of the holiday fever. Local college students are also feeling the stress of trying to save their money to properly celebrate. Onondaga Community College Student, Bellz Smith, has noticed a shift in his friends’ energy. He explained that they are worrying, “have girlfriends, have moms and dads, that I have to you know provide all this money for. They’re kind of stressing.”
OCC is one of the few places that are actively holding recruitment for students looking for seasonal work. Although recruitment posters at the college are a great opportunity to find seasonal jobs, many students still feel skeptical about the process. OCC student, Derryl Rivers, expresses his concern with applying saying, “you have thousands of students who are interested, and the outcome of you getting a ‘yes’ is slim to none.”
Although, applicants similar to Rivers may worry about the positions only being temporary, there is still potential to be hired for a more permanent position after an employee’s seasonal term has ended.
FedEx is only one of the major companies in the Syracuse area that is currently recruiting people for seasonal jobs. The company is looking for two-hundred Syracuse locals interested in the open positions. Other companies hiring for the holidays in the Syracuse area include Macy’s, Target, and Sears.
