By Alex Hoaglund SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Hundreds of community members filled the Oncenter War Memorial to commemorate and honor on this Veterans Day.

The halls of the Oncenter filled with music from the Chittenango Dixieland Band, A Cappella groups Spirit of Syracuse and the Dr. Tom Dooley Choraliers, and pianist Ann Barnes.

The program featured guest speakers, County Executive Joanie Mahoney as well as Congressman John Katko and Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli.

This year was a special year, marking the 25th anniversary of the Gulf War. Key Note Speaker, Colonel Greg A. Semmel served during the Gulf War in part of the 174th Attack Wing Unit Commander.

In his speech, Semmel discussed the importance of the Constitution and how important it is to protect the United States freedoms.

“Thank you to our Veterans that defended the Constitution, this document is what it’s all about,” said Semmel.

He also thanked the Syracuse area community for its continued support.

“Thanks for the support that you bring us. Those of us, who are in this uniform everyday.”
