Meditation Becomes New Morning Ritual at SU

By Shantinique Brooks SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)— Daily morning meditation has existed on campus for over 10 years but never an early morning session. SU has introduced its first morning session less than a month ago.

SU’s Hendrick’s Chapel Dean Tiffanie Steinwert said that on average over 100 students go to weekly meditation sessions at Hendricks Chapel. Maureen Breed is among the few students that attend the new morning practice.

“Early morning practice is the perfect way to start your day and clear your mind, set the tone for the day,” said Breed. “So I really find that I feel the benefit of this throughout the day.”

While phone usage is one of the biggest issues for students and faculty, certain apps can help shut down your phone and allow for relaxed meditation.
